Christmas Memories

And just like that Christmas is over! We had a really great day ... just the 4 of us. Of cos I would love for us to be with family in South Africa enjoying a warm Christmas Day and heading to the beach on Boxing Day (soon soon soon!) but for now we make the best of these special times. It was so relaxing being at home. I told J I can't believe we're eating Christmas lunch in our jammies. His response 'who cares. it's just us!' It was raining and cold and well no need to get changed out of our comfy clothes!

Here's a few snapshots of our Christmas day ....

The kids woke up pretty early but we had warned them the night before that they were not to come into our room! We could hear them talking and Javan told Ria that Santa left them a letter. He loved the cookies and they were definitely on the nice list!
Zakumi also left them a note saying that it was a fun month and he had to leave to go back to the North Pole but he can't wait to see them Dec 1 next year!
Ria couldn't wait any longer and asked us to please wake up!!!
I got some quick pics with the kids and their trees ... Javan pretty much crammed whatever he could put on his tree but Ria was more picky and kept changing things out.
Ria insisted on taking my pic in front of her tree
We had breakfast and then it was time to read the Christmas story
the best part of this was when the kids got their bibles and read the Christmas story
Ria of cos didn't read but she opened her bible and told us the story and it was pretty accurate
now we're getting to the fun part
new kicks for both of them .... they were so excited. Javan really needed them and Ria has been asking for pink running shoes and pink soccer shoes so she was ecstatic (she's been wearing them non-stop now)
Javan got Ria a little purse and wallet .. . he even put a photo of the 2 of them inside it.
 aaaahhhh:)
she got him a bowling set and a slinky
they got some stuff from family and friends
love the Naartjie clothes Aunty Davash sent for them!
and their big gifts ... A DS for Javan
he was speechless ... he's asked for one for a while now and he's really earned it.
An Ipod Touch for Ria (thank you Craigslist!!!)
Stocking time ...
Inside their stockings was a big surprise from my parents ... Javan read his letter and then I read Ria her's. I don't think it really hit them when they first read it but now they GET IT.
Ma and Thata are taking them to Disney!!!
My stocking had an awesome surprise for me too ....
won't bore you with the details but it was all photography related ....my day was made!
J's stocking had a planner ... he's cracking up cos he is not the most organized person but he NEEDS to be and he is constantly forgetting meetings (or remembering at the last minute) cos he just never puts it on a calender so hopefully this will help:)
while we opened our gifts, the kids enjoyed their new toys:)
The rest of our day was super lazy. We visited Norma and Kelvin that evening and had a really great time hanging out with them. They too had a lazy family day at home.

What a blessed season we have had! Our God is so good to us. Looking forward to another year filled with amazing memories with my amazing little family.

Merry Christmas!

Much love from our family to yours

'An angel of the Lord appeared to them,
and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
But the angel said to them,
"Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.
Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you;
 he is Christ the Lord.
This will be a sign to you:
You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel,
praising God and saying,
"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.'
Luke 2:9-14

Christmas Eve Fun

This pic is so special to me .... not just cos of Ria in it but cos of what she is holding. It's my very first little purse that my Ma (who Ria is named after) gave to me when I was about 6 or 7 yrs old. The kids were going to get their Christmas shopping done today and Javan has a wallet but Ris doesn't so I let her use it. I explained to her how important and special that little purse was to me and that she needed to be very careful with it. She put her money in it and was so protective over it. When she got back home, she brought her piggy bank into my room, took her money out the purse, put it into her piggy bank and put the little purse in my drawer.
After shopping we got some baking done
Later in the afternoon/evening Shelly, Ishi and the kids came over to visit. They surprised her parents and siblings by coming for Christmas. Always love seeing them. The kids had a great time playing while we got caught up.
Ana, Alia and Ria
Javan, Eli and Ramon
 the whole crew
Norma and Kelvin came by for a quick visit too .... no pics with them but it was nice having everyone over at the same time.

The kids got the Christmas Eve jammies
and then it was time to get some pics together
This pic has sorta become a Christmas Eve tradition of ours ... I think it started back when Javan was 18mths old on his 2nd Christmas. I was laying on the floor and he pretty much threw himself on me and of cos it hurt and he started laughing, J had the camera in hand and got a pic!  This might possibly be the last year we do this ... they about crushed me!!! We had a good laugh though.
Ria took these next two pics
 Gotta love the self-timer!
J and I had fun playing around with the camera ... the kids did not share our joy in this
 love this!
We read The Night Before Christmas
wrote letters and put out cookies for Santa
Javan's letter is the sweetest note ever!!! Ria drew him Santa a rainbow and wrote her name 3 times cos she is 3!
and they FINALLY went to bed around 10:15pm ... just a few more hours left!
Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas Eve!
