Crocodile Dock: VBS 2009

We're onto a new phase in our parenting journey ... the one where our kid is actually old enough to participate in events/programmes and not have to play in the nursery! This past week Javan got to attend his first VBS where he learned that he need not be afraid. We've been listening to 'FEAR NOT' and 'LET MY PEOPLE GO' all week long. And, we had to hear about Chatter and the 'splashing bugs' (aka lightning bugs!)Its so stinking cute! He even took a friend with him 4 out of the 5 nights and was so thrilled to ask Noah if he's going to 'Javan's church' every night! They both enjoyed all the crafts, music, games and stories they learned. Hats of to our church and everyone who was involved for really putting together an awesome week for our kids.

Mac Cake

Javan has asked to make 'brown cake' (translates to a yellow cake mix with chocolate icing) all week. We finally got around to baking before we left for VBS tonight. He had so much fun! We decided to do a batch of cupcakes and a little cake. He wasn't too keen on having to wait on them baking though!

he wouldn't lick the spoon but sure ate a lot of chocolate sprinkles ... as did our floor:)

Just Bead It

Javan and I have been doing some crafty things with beads and since we have a ton of them, Jermaine wanted him to make a necklace.

tiny little hands working oh so hard!

Once he was done, Jermaine was going to close of the necklace - I asked him to watch Javan so he wouldn't drop all the beads. I should have asked him to watch himself seeing as though he's the one the dropped all the beads on the floor ...

2nd try at stringing beads...

Once its done, he goes outside and yep, you guessed it ... dropped the beads again! Javan walks outside and says 'What the crap! Did you make a mess?' Lol! We were laughing so hard. He got that line from his dad btw:)

So he strings them again (third time). Shortly thereafter I hear 'CRAP' - that would be Jermaine surrounded by a sea of beads on the kitchen floor!

By now, he's highly annoyed but HAS to finish what he started ... Here's Javan showing me his necklace

and me modeling the finished product:)

free dinner Friday night
So there's a good story to this one! I had heard several people talk about how good Red Robin Gourmet Burgers was, so we decided to try it out a couple of weeks ago. We went at a time when it was quiet, after lunch. The restaurant was empty but we still had to wait for a table and the service just plain stunk. When we got home, I went on their website and 'complained' - we loved the food, but the service was awful. Two days later, we got a msg from the manager. He had tried several times to get in touch with me and we kept missing his calls. Finally someone from their corporate office emailed me and I eventually got to speak to the manager. He offered me a $50 gift card to make up for the terrible service so Friday night went back - we invited Nicole and Serge to go with us (their first time). Service was much better and we all enjoyed our food! It pays to 'complain' sometimes! FYI - this is only the 2nd time I have done this ... don't want anyone thinking I make a habit of complaining about service just to get free food!!!

Gangster Girl

How sweet is she:) 12wks old today and wearing her big brothers outfit:) Its also the first time she wore jeans ... well, overalls but its close enough. I thought I could get away with this since the onesie was white with a green elephant on it and the shoes were unisex. J thought it was funny! He did want a pink bow in her hair, which I thought was silly since he's constantly saying there's too much pink in her closet!!!

LOL...literally:)

Jermaine would like everyone to know that Ria laughed out loud, not just smiled, but laughed for the first time while she was playing with her Daddy!

So there ... everyone knows that her daddy made her laugh ... just like her mummy made her big brother laugh out loud for the first time:)

Sweet Siblings

We are constantly trying to get pictures of both Javan and Ria - what a task that is! Javan is usually more concerned about what Ria is doing and watching us trying to get her to smile and she of cos is just focused on the flash on the camera. Needless to say J and I both look like clowns in the process!

sweet siblings

he loves kissing her!

Javan says to Ria 'Ria look at Berwyl and smile!'

he absolutely adores his baby sister:)

We love watching Javan interact with Ria - he an awesome and very proud big brother. She just lights up when he talks with and he gets so excited when she responds to him. Its so sweet watching their relationship develop. I love listening to him talk with her. I really dont want to rush them growing up, but its definitely exciting to picture them running around together, getting up to mischief or just loving on each other in the years to come!

Painting Memories

We found the perfect way to spend our Saturday afternoon ... painting memories at River City Pottery. Javan picked out a little train to paint and Veryll made an ornament and a sign for princess Ria. We've enjoyed this in the past and will definitely be back to paint some more.

Flashback Friday

I honestly hate being so far away from home. And, having kids has made it a lot tougher. Don't get me wrong. It's great getting to experience a totally different country and life outside of what you grew up with but the tough part is missing out on important family events. This weekend brings one of those big events - my cousin Dene's wedding. We had hoped we would all be home celebrating, esp since she asked me to be her maid of honour, but sadly we're not and USCIS is to blame. But I digress ...

Today's flashback friday is dedicated to my cousin Dene. Two peas in a pod ... that would be us! We have been inseparable since she arrived on the scene 14mths after I was born. She's not just my cousin, but my little sister and bff! We have been with each other through the good times and the bad, and just like any real friendship we've had our laughs and our spats.

Dene, I know you won't get to see this post for a couple weeks but I just wanted to say how proud I am of you! You're a great cousin, sister, friend (and aunt!). We love you so much. You already know how I feel about not being there and I promised no more tears so even though we can't be there physically with you, know that we are sharing in your excitement.

(I didnt feel like scanning old pics even though I have several and I'm not in the mood to pull out my digital files! Here's a few that I found in my shutterfly albums - they're bad but it will work!)
