It was fun catching up with Sophie - she came into town for Ishi's graduation. Shelly, Sophie and I went to Lee together. There's actually one person missing from this crew (Suzanne). We used to work together at the Admissions Office on A-Force and enjoyed many fun evenings working or goofing of on campus tours! So crazy that we're all married now and even though life keeps us busy we still have time for good old friends - those are the best kind:)

Friends for life - we were college friends, work colleagues, classmates, room mates, double dated (we started dating a day a part from each other) but Shelly and Ishi have us beat! They're coming up on 7yrs of marriage in July and have 4 kids!

Congrats Grads!

We went to the Seminary graduation today and Jermaine got to celebrate with a few of his class mates and close friends as the closed another chapter in the lives. Javan and I hung out in the lobby. I guess I knew from last year's service what it would be like so I decided not to attempt sitting inside for the duration of everything. Its a little more difficult keeping an almost 2yr old entertained in confined quarters!

An Ode to Rupert

If you're an avid Survivor fan (like J and I) then you should know who Rupert is and this post will make sense to you! Earlier this week Javan and I joined our friends from our mothers (and kids) group at church for a little fun. We got to try our hands at tie dying. This was a first for me and it was pretty cool actually. The kids played and the ladies did the work (what else is new right!). Its such a fun, simple activity to do - a little messy but definitely worth doing.

the colours didnt turn out as intense as I would have liked even though I didnt wash it out within 12hrs - it was more like 3 days later that I washed it).

and a little FYI - Rupert was known for his tie dye shirts on survivor. He made them popular during his season!


ETA: I just looked at the pic of Javan's onesy and Ruperts shirt and they almost match!!!

We're in Sweden?

No, though it felt like we were in Scandinavian, complete with Swedish meatballs too. After spending the night with Da-mon's family, we left and headed south on I-75 to Ikea. Up to this point I had never been to an Ikea store and had in mind that it would be like a Rooms-to-go kinda thing. IKEA IS ROOMS-TO-GO ON STEROIDS!!! The store was humongous. It was bigger than a Sam's Club and Wal-Mart combined. You know a store is huge when you get a map to find your way around AND it has a full service restaurant in it. There's also a very large kids playworld in it. We spent over 2 and a half hours and we could have stayed longer no doubt.
They say "first times a charm" and it sure was for me with Ikea. I can't wait to go back. I loved it and it was a fun experience.

Friend's for life

For Memorial Day weekend we headed to Atlanta to spend time with Da-mon and his family who just recently moved from Cali. Da-mon is a true friend that I have know since we were in the 8th grade and we have kept in touch on a regular basis.
He and his wife Iris just bought a beautiful home. We are envious of the space they have! Javan loved playing with Da-mon's two kids, Devin and Julius. Da-mon whipped up a classic Bahamian meal (peas and rice, potato salad and baked chicken). I did not know he could cook. Actually Iris said it was the first time that he has cooked. Maybe he was trying to impress me..hahaha
They got us hooked on a show called "Deadliest Catch" which shows these fisherman in the Bering sea laying traps for crabs. Oh my gosh! That show was amazing.
It was good spending time with an old friend.

Lots to Catch Up On...

we're working on our house. fun stuff ... really! we are enjoying it. its midnight and J is painting and I'm organizing, de-cluttering and getting rid of 'stuff'! Feels great though I am exhausted and ready for bed. Will be back with pics soon.

After the fun at Pump It Up, we all went down to Coolidge Park and enjoyed a wonderful Saturday evening. Kelvin and I fired up the grill while everyone else went on boat cruise on the river.





It was a good day with good friends.

A place for kids?

This past Saturday our friends Kelvin and Norma invited us to celebrate their daughter, karen's b-day (she turned 3 today) at a recreation facility called Pump-it-Up. It is a wonderful place to throw a party for kids. There are 2 major play areas consisting of inflatable slides and bouncing rings and obstacle courses.





Although it is a place for kids, it pulls the "kid" out of all the adults. Big grown men and women are taking advantage of the enormous slides and we all had an absolute blast.

We spent 40 minutes in each room and 40 minutes in the party room with the cake and pizza.

Super Javan!!

Javan was on the couch last night and started to count..1..2..3...then he jumped up into the air and landed on his butt on the couch. I was amazed at the vertical lift of my son. His natural athleticism is obviously genetic. Look at him jump:


Its a bird..its a plane...its Jumping Javan!!!

Pardon the Interruption

I was on the phone this afternoon on a very important call. In the middle of conversation Javan comes on the couch where I was sitting and wanted to see what I was doing on the computer. Not paying much attention to him (because of my concentration on the conversation)

Javan says "Dadda?"
Me: "Yes Javan ... I'm on the phone right now."
Javan: I'm a boy!!!

The person on the other end of the call could not help but start asking questions about Javan. I could not help but laugh at the innocence of his statement. He just wanted me to know a very important detail of his life.
